Sedao Network Related FAQ's

Can I use a fixed IP address?

Yes: SWEP computers are set to automatically obtain an IP address using the DHCP service on the network they connect to.  For infrastructure or security reasons, it may be necessary to use a fixed IP address. This is configured using the standard networking tools in Windows® XP® - Please consult your network administrator for more information.

Can I use Wi-Fi with a SWEP computer?

Yes: Wireless internet can be used with SWEP computers but will require the appropriate hardware to be purchased and configured. Please ensure your Wireless Network is protected by WEP/WPA or better encryption. Please remember that some wireless networks operate at a lower speed than wired networks, thus network intensive media (IP TV for example) may require greater bandwidth than your Wireless Network can supply. Please be aware that Wireless Networks are susceptible to interference and thus are not always as reliable as wired networks.

Do I need to add proxy settings to my SWEP computer?

SWEP computers allow online content to be displayed as part of screen presentations. In order to display this content, you will require an Internet connection. If you use a proxy server to access the internet, please add your proxy settings directly into Internet Explorer on the SWEP computer.  When adding proxy settings ensure you tick “bypass proxy server for local addresses”.  Please be aware that networks that require a login for Internet access are not supported.  SWEP computers require a routed or ‘always-on’ connection to the internet.

Can I add my SWEP computer to my Domain?

SWEP computers can operate on domains. SWEP computers can be added to a domain in the same way that normal Windows® XP® computers would be. Please be aware that most domains require domain user and computer accounts to be created on the domain controller. Adding a SWEP computer to a domain will in most cases interfere with the user profile created at the factory.  Please see below with regard to adding new user profiles. There is a document “How to add a SWEP Computer to a domain” available for download from our website.

Can I create new Windows user Profiles on my SWEP computer?

Yes: Technically, it is entirely possible to create and/or use alternative user accounts.  However, you should be aware that the user account configured at the factory was created with Digital Signage Playback in mind.  These settings will not be transferred to your new user account(s). Furthermore, SWEP computers are designed to boot straight into signage playback and changes to user profiles may prevent this.  Auto-login using TweakUI may need to be reconfigured. There is a document “How to add a SWEP Computer to a domain” available for download from our website.

Can I add my SWEP computer to my Workgroup?

Yes: SWEP computers can be added to a workgroup in the same way as other Windows® XP® computers would be.  Your SWEP computers will be a member of the ‘SWEPNET’ workgroup when you receive it from the factory. This is because we believe it is practical to add all your digital signage computers to one single workgroup.

Can I use my firewall with a SWEP computer?

Yes: In some cases, exceptions will need to be made on the firewall to allow the SWEP interface to be accessed from other computers on the network.  By default, SWEP is hosted as a web site on port 80.  It may also be necessary to make exceptions for remote media being played by the SWEP computer. Please consult with your Network Administrator for advice.

Can I remotely access my SWEP computer?

Yes: SWEP computers support Remote Desktop. It is recommended however that VNC is used. VNC comes pre-installed on SWEP computers and allows access to your SWEP computer without changing the current logged-on user. Citrix® remote viewing systems have also been used successfully and other similar systems should work just as well.

Do I need to share folders on my SWEP Computer?

SWEP computers have two shared folders by default ‘C:\imageflyer’ and C:\incoming’. In most circumstances these should remain shared on your network. If you wish to share other folders, the procedure is the same as with any other Windows® XP® device. ImageFlyer can access folders shared on other computers and servers as long as the relevant permissions have been set. Please consult your network administrator for further information.

Can I change the SWEPs computer name?

Yes: To change a SWEP computers name follow the normal procedure within Windows® XP®. Remember that after you change the computer name, you will need to use the new name to access the SWEP interface. Try to pick a memorable and simple computer name to make access to the SWEP interface easier for users.

Can I use my SWEP computer over WAN / VPN?

Yes: The SWEP interface can be used across Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks and Virtual Private Networks. Please consult your network administrator for advice on this.

After making some changes, the PC no longer logs in automatically – how do I log in?

The SWEP computer has a default user account named “SWEP User”.  The password for this account set at the factory will be “admin”.  If you have changed the password or deleted this user account then you may have to return the PC to Sedao for recovery or a reset to factory defaults.

Can I use Active Directory with my SWEP computer?

No: Active directory installs low level system software to allow remote control and configuration of the PC.  As digital signage relies on specific settings that will be quite different to other corporate computers on your network, it is suggested that you avoid adding the SWEP computer to the Active Directory.  Deployment of Sedao software, other than by direct installation of an EXE or MSI package from the console is NOT supported.
