Sedao ImageFlyer Software FAQ's
How do I show the ImageFlyer control panel?
Use the ‘PageUp’ key on your keyboard. If, for any reason this is impractical, you can also right click the ImageFlyer icon on the taskbar and then select ‘Show Control Panel’.
Can I use Video over IP with the SWEP computer?
Yes: ImageFlyer works with most Video over IP systems that allow video to be viewed through a conventional web browser. ImageFlyer is certified to operate in conjunction with Exterity® video over IP equipment.
Can I use ImageFlyer on Microsoft® Windows® Vista?
Yes: Version 4.19 or later of ImageFlyer works on current versions of Windows® Vista.
Does ImageFlyer work in a virtual PC?
Yes – ImageFlyer will run in a virtual PC but Sedao do not support this as there is no practical reason to install the software this way.
How do I insert a RollerWriter file?
Open the control panel, then from the ‘Add’ menu select ‘HTML browser’. Browse to the RollerWriter file that you wish to use, then select ‘Add this’.
What versions of Windows® XP® are compatible with ImageFlyer?
All current versions of Microsoft® Windows® XP (Professional, Home, and Embedded) are compatible with ImageFlyer.
What are the computer specification requirements to run ImageFlyer?
ImageFlyer will operate on most current and recent generation PCs. Minimum system requirements vary depending on application. In most cases an Atom N270 or better processor with at least 1gb RAM will be able to display the majority of presentations.
Where do I find out how to add an RSS feed from a website?
You need to exit ImageFlyer and open Internet Explorer. Navigate to a web page that has an RSS feed. You may need to click the orange RSS logo to see the actual feed content. When you are on the correct page, the page URL address will end in XML. Copy the entire address URL to your clipboard. Then open ImageFlyer, goto the ‘Add’ menu and selet ‘RSS Feed’. Now paste the RSS URL address into the dialogue box and click ‘Add This’.
Why is my RSS feed not working?
Please check that you have an internet connection and can access the RSS feed through Internet Explorer. In some situations, firewalls prevent ImageFlyer from accessing RSS feeds from websites. Please check with your network administrator that RSS feeds are allowed through your firewall and security software. A free program such as “Feed Reader” will be able to confirm whether it is a security restriction that is causing your issue.
The web page that I added contains old data. It refreshes when I restart ImageFlyer. Can I refresh the content automatically?
Yes – Click the HTML element in your presentation. It will then be highlighted in the ‘Current Data’ list. Click the ‘Enable’ button in the ‘Refresh’ area – and then select the number of minutes between refreshes.
Why do my pictures/movies appear in low quality on my display?
Please ensure that your media is of a suitable standard for presentation. Many digital signage applications use high definition screens that will cause low quality pictures to be displayed as such.
Why is my live video feature not working?
Please ensure the live video source is connected to your SWEP computer. Please check the efficacy of all cables between your live video source and your SWEP computer. Please check that your live video source is outputting live video. Please ensure your live video source is out-putting live video in a suitable analogue format. Please check that the input selector within ImageFlyer is pointing at the correct live video source. Please ensure that there are no other video capture devices attached to or installed on your SWEP computer, including webcams. Please note that live video will only operate when there is supporting live video hardware. SWEP Micro-Lite computers are not equipped with Live Video capture hardware.
Why is there a black box where my video should be displayed?
This is usually due to a codec required to play the video not being installed on the SWEP computer. Please try playing the same media file directly in Media Player. If it works, then it should now play in ImageFlyer. If it still does not display, please check for and install any codec that might be required. Please ask the provider of the video file, or your own IT department for assistance with this.
Can I use other devices to capture live video and display it through ImageFlyer?
Yes: ImageFlyer is designed to operate with the Live Video capture cards pre-installed at the factory. Other capture devices may work with your SWEP computer, providing they have WDM compliant drivers.
Can I use TV / Satellite / Cable TV cards with my SWEP computer?
ImageFlyer does not currently support analogue or digital TV tuners of any kind. Please use a live video capture card such as those that can be installed as an option at the time of purchase – and then connect an external device, such as a Freeview box.
Why can't I get audio from my SWEP computer?
Please ensure your speakers / audio distribution device is correctly connected to the ‘front’ audio output on the rear of your SWEP computer (lime green). Please check the cables between your SWEP computer and your speakers. Please check volume controls in ImageFlyer to ensure all the levels are high and not muted. Please check that your audio play out device is switched on and working. Please ensure that the content you are trying to play has audio attached to it. Please check the audio settings for your SWEP computers soundcard.
Why have I got green squares on my screen instead of the correct pictures?
This is caused when ImageFlyer is unable to access media files. This could be the result of media files no longer being at the original location. This can also be caused by media files being stored on a remote network location when there is insufficient bandwidth to access the files. This may also be a result of using media from a protected remote location, where the design PC has access rights but the SWEP computer does not. Any unexpected changes to folders and filenames where presentation media such as SIF files, pictures, movies and RSS files are stored will cause this type of issue. If you use an external storage device on your design PC, such as a memory stick – then please connect this to the player, or preferably move the media from the storage device to the hard disk on the player.
Why are my touch screen features not working?
Please ensure your display has a touch panel facility. Please check that your touch screen interface cable is connected and any required drivers and software are installed correctly on your SWEP computer. Please ensure you are using touch compatible elements within ImageFlyer, such as ‘ImageFlyer Control Files’ and WebPages where the ‘Allow User Control’ option has been ticked. Please consult the ImageFlyer manual for more information.
Why are my Hotkeys not working?
Please check that your keyboard is connected to and installed on the SWEP computer. In the Hotkeys menu, please ensure the correct hotkeys file has been set as default. If in doubt, click ‘File’ – ‘Set as Default Keyset’. Please ensure hotkey settings have been added and saved to the hotkeys file. For further information please consult the ImageFlyer manual.
Why does my Schedule not work?
Please check that the Schedule file has been set as default. If in doubt, within the schedule window, select ‘File’ – ‘Set as Default Schedule’. Please ensure settings have been added and saved to the Schedule file. Please consult the ImageFlyer manual for more information. If changing the schedule using the SWEP interface please ensure the correct schedule file is selected in ‘’Configure this server’. See the SWEP client user guide for further information.
Why are my Power Point Presentations failing to play or playing incorrectly?
Please ensure you have PowerPoint Viewer 97, PowerPoint 2003 or PowerPoint 2007 installed on your SWEP computer. Please ensure your version of ImageFlyer supports PowerPoint. PowerPoint presentations must be set to automatically progress during a slideshow. Please consult your ImageFlyer and/or PowerPoint manual for more information.
Why are my Pictures appearing squashed or stretched?
When resizing images or movies in ImageFlyer with the right mouse button, hold the ‘CTRL’ key at the same time to maintain the aspect ratio of the image. When adding a folder of movies or images into ImageFlyer, please ensure all the images are the same aspect ratio. Portrait and Landscape images should be contained in separate folders and be added to separate screen locations.
Why does the screen presentation not move smoothly?
SWEP computers are designed to play high quality media in Digital Signage applications. However, if exceptionally large images are used, the visual performance may be affected. Please resize or compress your images as close to their display resolution as possible. Equally with movies, use movies of a resolution appropriate to the play out resolution. Flash animations can use considerable CPU resources. If large or multiple flash animations are running at once, this can degrade overall performance. If you have added third party software, such as anti virus or indexing tools, please ensure such software is not consuming resources in the background. Virus scans or indexing or shadow copying can all be CPU and/or disk intensive. If ImageFlyer is using online remote content, it may stutter if there are bandwidth or access limitations. With all aforementioned situations, remove screen elements one by one to identify which component is using the most computer resources. Windows Task Manager can be useful to determine which element causes the biggest difference when removed from the presentation.
Where should I store the media for my screen presentations?
SWEP computers are equipped with high capacity hard drives. The ideal location for all media, apart from online remote media, is the local SWEP computers hard drive (Drive C:). It is recommended that any media stored on CD/DVD or memory stick is copied to the SWEP computer hard drive prior to being added to your presentation. All media stored on the local hard drive should ideally be stored in a logical folder structure on the C: drive. We suggest using a sub folder of the factory created C:\imageflyer folder. For example: C:\ImageFlyer\MyCompany\. This allows media to be easily synchronised and transferred between player(s) and design PC’s.
Can I play media stored elsewhere on the network?
Yes: ImageFlyer can play media stored anywhere that is accessible by Windows Explorer. It is recommended, however, that as much media as possible is stored locally on the SWEP computer. Sedao Content Manager can be used, subject to license, to synchronise presentations between design PC’s and player(s).
Why does a different presentation open when I double click a SIF file in Windows Explorer?
This will be due to a ‘default’ presentation being set in the ImageFlyer schedule. ImageFlyer will always display the default presentation regardless of the method by which the program has been launched.
Why does ImageFlyer suddenly load a different presentation?
Please check your schedule to see if you have anything set for “If Idle For”.
How can I prevent anyone stopping the presentation by pressing the ESCape key on the keyboard?
Bring up ImageFlyer control panel and go to ‘Controls’ > ‘Preferences’. Select the option “Don’t exit unless control panel showing”.
I would like to use both VGA and DVI video outputs to display different presentations – Where do I start?
You first need to enable Extended Desktop in your graphics software. Once configured properly, the second screen should display a plain background. In ImageFlyer, open the control panel and select “Controls” > “Preferences”. Select “Don’t constrain move”. You can now move presentation elements to the second screen by moving the elements off the right hand side of the first screen. You can set the resolutions on the two displays independently if this is supported by the SWEP computer you have purchased.
Can I display the same presentations through both VGA and DVI outputs?
Yes – simply open the graphics driver options and select the ‘Clone’ facility. The resolutions on both PC’s will normally need to be the same.
How do I add text to the presentation?
There are a few methods to do this. Either create a graphic containing the text you wish to display. Or why not use RollerWriter or RSS writer to add a little animation to the text? RollerWriter can also create static text if you change the ‘movement type’ to ‘None’. We do not provide the ability to easily add static text as it is possible that you may accidentally damage your display device by displaying a constant image that is ‘burned in’ to the display through over exposure.
How do I make my text to scroll right to left, instead of bottom to top?
Open your text in RollerWriter - in the movement type, simply change Scroll to Crawl.
I thought I had seen more transitions for pictures in Imageflyer – why is there now only a handful of them?
Some transitions are only available if the picture is anchored to one spot on screen. To do this check the ‘Ticker’ option while the picture is selected. The ‘Hide by’ option will be greyed out – and the transition list will now contain many additional options, such as ‘circle shrink in’ and ‘dissolve’.
What is an ‘ImageFlyer Control File’?
An ImageFlyer Control File is the SIF file that contains details of the contents of a presentation. A control file can be added to your presentation to act as a ‘button’ that can be used to move between different presentation files. The button can be clicked with a mouse – or touched if on a touch screen – or can be set to autopress after a pre-defined delay.
Can I create a loop of presentations?
Yes – simply create all the presentations and save them separately. Add an ImageFlyer control file to each presentation with autopress enabled. The button should point to the next presentation in the sequence. The final presentation should point back to the first presentation.
Why are Imageflyer Control file buttons invisible?
Control files appear as solid grey buttons while the Control Panel is open. When the Control Panel is hidden, the control files appear to be invisible. This is because we intend for you to cover the buttons with you own text, graphic or similar.
I can’t ‘press’ my control file since adding a media element to cover it.
Please make sure your control file is ‘raised’ above the element you are using to cover it. Click the element that is covering the Control File and then lower the item until the control button becomes visible. Use the ‘raise’ and ‘lower’ buttons on the Control Panel.
Can I update ImageFlyer?
Yes: Sedao is constantly developing and updating its software. Please consult your Sedao representative or the Sedao website for further information.
Does Imageflyer support transparency?
No. There are no current plans to support transparency.
PowerPoint
Can I use PowerPoint files in my presentation?
Sedao does not recommend using PowerPoint in your digital signage system as it is not designed to be used as a 24/7 presentation application. We recommend that you export your slides as static images and insert them as a folder of images within ImageFlyer that can then be configured to use simple transition animations to make the information more eye catching. Sedao provide PowerPoint features only for convenience - neither Microsoft nor Sedao can accept support calls or any liability related to using PowerPoint within ImageFlyer.
When I go to add a PowerPoint file, I see a disclaimer - why is this?
This is because Sedao are unable to offer full support for PowerPoint files as these are control files for the Microsoft PowerPoint application and using them within ImageFlyer uses your computers own installation of the Microsoft PowerPoint application and as this is a third party software application we are unable to control any aspects of its installation or development.
What type of PowerPoint files can ImageFlyer play?
ImageFlyer only plays PowerPoint files with a .ppt extension. When saving your PowerPoint file please ensure you save it as a 97-2003 Presentation.
How do I add PowerPoint to my screen layout?
Bring up your control panel by pressing ‘Page Up’ on your keyboard and select PowerPoint from the ‘Add’ menu. When the disclaimer comes up read it then click ‘OK’. Now browse to your file and click ‘open’. Finally click ‘Add this’ on your control panel. Your PowerPoint file should now appear on your screen.
Why does the PowerPoint file I added not appear on my screen?
You need to ensure that you have PowerPoint viewer 97 installed, NOT a full PowerPoint version. If you do not have this then you can use the link below to install it. www.sedao.co.uk/PPView97.exe
Why can I see parts of the PowerPoint program after I add a PowerPoint file to my presentation?
This is because you either have the full version of PowerPoint on your machine or you have had the full version installed at a previous time. Versions of ImageFlyer from 4.1.9 onwards do not normally experience this problem. If it does still persist, you can try removing the PowerPoint software. Software removal is not always successful as some information may remain in your computer system’s registry. In this case, please contact your IT administrator for additional assistance.
Why does the PowerPoint File I added stop playing?
When you create your PowerPoint file, you need to make sure that you configure automatic transitions between slides such that no user intervention is required to progress between frames or return to the first slide at the end of the presentation. In addition, in some PowerPoint versions you need to ensure the presentation scales to fit the screen without displaying scroll bars.
