Sedao Hardware FAQ's

Can I turn my SWEP computer off and on automatically?

Yes: SWEP computers can turn themselves on at a regular time of day using the BIOS RTC timer. This can be configured in the BIOS settings of your SWEP computer. It will only work if power is left connected to the player.  Please consult an IT technician for further information. In order to turn your SWEP computers off at a regular time of day, you can use “Configure System Commands” to ensure that there is an appropriate shutdown command.  Then use “Schedule System Command” in SWEP to set the time at which you wish the computer to be turned off.  For more information please consult an IT Technician. A sample shutdown command might be “C:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe” and parameters might be “-S –t 20 –C “SWEP shutdown will begin shortly”.

What should I try if my SWEP computer does not start up?

Please ensure the power connection to the SWEP computer is properly attached. Please ensure power is getting to the SWEP computer by looking for a green LED on the external transformer.  Cycle the power by unplugging the power cable for ten seconds and then reattaching it. If the SWEP computer does not come on – that is, there are No lights on the rear panel, it will probably need to be returned to Sedao for warranty or chargeable repair as appropriate. Please see the Returns Procedure for more information.

What happens if there is a power failure?

SWEP computers are designed to restart as soon as power is restored to them. Assuming the configuration has not been adjusted the SWEP computer will automatically log in and ImageFlyer will start without user intervention.

Do I need to surge protect my SWEP computer?

Yes: Electrical surges can seriously damage SWEP computers.  In the event of the SWEP computer being damaged by a power surge, its warranty will be void. Surge protectors are a cost effective way of protecting your Player and often include third party insurance for any electrical devices powered through them.

My SWEP computer is warm to the touch, is this a problem?

No: SWEP computers are designed to dissipate heat using the outer casing as a heat sink. If you are concerned about the temperature of the SWEP computer, first check that any visible fans are spinning consistently and unimpeded by dust or detritus. If the unit is too hot to touch, there may well a problem. Consult an IT Technician. SWEP Micro-Lite Players are designed to be passively cooled through their outer casing; these may reach very high temperatures. This is by design and perfectly normal.

Are there any maintenance procedures for SWEP computers?

No: SWEP computers are designed to run twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. In certain environments, such as very dusty areas, it may be necessary to periodically check that the air vents are clear and unimpeded. Normal software maintenance procedures such as disk defragmentation may aid the longevity and performance of your SWEP computer, but these are not crucial.

Can I upgrade my SWEP computer internal hardware myself?

No: SWEP computers are not designed to be user serviceable. All the components within a SWEP computer have been rigorously tested for compatibility and reliability. Third party internal components will void your warranty. Breaking any device designed to prohibit you from accessing or replacing components will instantly void the warranty on that player.

Any attempt to repair the unit may invalidate your warranty. Breaking any device designed to prohibit you from accessing or replacing components will instantly void the warranty on that player.

Can I use third party external peripherals with my SWEP computers?

Yes: It may be necessary to use peripherals such as keyboards and memory sticks. As long as these are in working order, their use is within the limits of the Sedao warranty. However, if a peripheral is responsible for damage to the SWEP computer or the installation of software in support of the peripheral results in re-configuration of the player such that it is no longer optimally configured for digital signage playback – then the recovery from this is likely to be chargeable.

Can I use my SWEP computer outside?

No: SWEP computers are only certified for use indoors. In certain circumstances, when using ISO certified external enclosures, it may be possible to use SWEP computers externally. Please consult your Sedao representative prior to proceeding.

Can I paint or cover the outer casing of my SWEP computer?

No: SWEP computers have a precise thermal design. By effectively insulating the outer casing with paint or blocking ventilation slots, the risk of over-heating and subsequent damage is greatly increased. Allowing overheating will void your warranty.
